Deep Vision tested on Dr. Fridtjof Nansen
The Deep Vision camera system for fish sampling in the trawl has been tested onboard the brand new Norwegian marine research vessel "Dr. Fridtjof Nansen". See Deep Vision images from the cruise.[rev_slider alias="deepvision"]
Dr. Fridtjof Nansen" is owned by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and operated by the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) and the University of Bergen (UIB).
The research version of Deep Vision attaches to the trawl and makes it possible to sample fish for species, length and position in the sea without bringing it onboard the vessel. The system was tested for a total of four hauls during the cruise outside of Egersund in Norway this week. This not only gave unique experience with a state of the art research vessel but provided valuable images from three bottom hauls.The current commercial prototype of the system is available for sale and rental for research purposes and has been employed on 8 cruises for a total of 68 hauls.Related:
