Full speed ahead for Deep Vision Commercial Trawl System

Deep Vision Commercial Version for fish sorting in the trawl is under full development. Funded by Innovation Norway, the system will be available for sale within the next few years.– Developing a system that will make it possible to sort the catch in the trawl, has always been our long-term goal. The first few orders of the Deep Vision Research Version, along with funding from Innovation Norway, allow us to go full speed ahead with the Deep Vision Commercial Trawl System, says Hege Hammersland-White, Business Development Manager at Scantrol Deep Vision.Skippers’ meetingIn 2016, Deep Vision won the Innovation Award at Nor-Fishing. The award prize was used towards organizing a skippers’ meeting in Bergen with representatives from leading Norwegian trawl companies such as Nordic Wildfish, Nordnes, Havfisk and Nergård Havfiske. The two-day seminar was dedicated to discussing their feedback and ideas for developing the Deep Vision technology into a sorting device for trawlers.– Their feedback was very positive and gave us some valuable guidelines for developing the system further for this market. In addition, several of the trawl companies expressed an interest in trying out the system in the development phase, says Hammersland-White.The project was awarded funding from Innovation Norway earlier this year.– We are very grateful that they recognize the potential for this system. This means that we can keep full focus on developing the technology even further, says Hammersland-White.Automatic analysis softwareOne of the most important areas of development is the Deep Vision software, where the aim is a fully automatic species and size recognition. The newly funded company Girona Vision Research works together with Scantrol Deep Vision to reach this goal.– After years of looking for the best resources in software development and image analysis for underwater environments, we came across some highly specialized and competent resources in Spain. The initial cooperation proved so successful that we decided to co-fund a new company that now works full-time with Deep Vision, says Hammersland-White, who continues:– If all goes to plan, a Commercial Trawl Version will be ready by next year
